THE REAL DANGERS OF SILICA DUST

At around 1pm on August 29 a 200 tonne Luffing Crane situated on a Barge in Sydney Harbour (Just near the entrance to Luna Park) was lifting a 10 tonne concrete anchor block when suddenly the cable snapped dropping the load into the harbour.

With an unprecedented level of tower crane activity on Sydney’s skyline, a crane incident at the Probuild Constructions Discovery Point residential high-rise development has again focused concerns on safety standards.

A 54 year old man has tragically died after falling approxiamately 20 metres down a lift well in an incident at a Hamilton Marino site in Carlton.

The building industry is dangerous, but workplace fatalities are unacceptable.

CFMEU EBAs state that workers will stop work and leave site when the temperature reaches 35 degrees.

We all know that coming closer to the end of the year, bosses start pushing harder to get jobs finished and corners start getting cut.

In just a 3 week period, 8 construction workers were killed in Australia just recently. Three of them in Victoria.

Wednesday 25 November 2015 was a very dark day in Western Australia with three tragic, preventable fatalities. The victims were two Irish ceiling fixers both in their 20’s and a 32 year old scaffolder.

1st incident

A 29 year old man, CFMEU Member Carlos Araujo, has died after being crushed in an incident at the Specialised Concrete Pumping company yard.
